Ash
Lawn Opera Stars Continue to Succeed
25
January 2008
Opera
News magazine has featured two
Ash Lawn Opera singers. Daniel Teadt, who played the role
of Figaro in our 2005 performance of Barber of Seville
, has received the prestigious award from the George
London Foundation for Singers. The George London Foundation
has been recognizing young professionals for over thirty-five
years. Rochelle Bard, who will sing Micaela in Carmen
this summer, was praised by Opera News reporter
Brian Kellow.
We
are also proud to announce that Sam Helfrich, our stage director
for West Side Story in 2006, will be directing the
opera Amistad this summer for the Spoleto Festival
USA. The Spoleto Festival, one of the most prestigious festivals
of music, theatre, and dance, takes place annually in Charleston,
South Carolina, during the months of May and June. Amistad
, composed by Anthony
Davis, is a true story of enslavement, rebellion, and eventual
trial, where gods and spirits traverse the Atlantic with captives
on their journey to slavery and eventually to freedom.
Ash
Lawn Opera is so excited to see Ash Lawn Opera singers dazzle
audiences and reach new heights!
